Review of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This is a review for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D in the stylistic way of Brad Oswald, from Winnipeg Free Press.

Still on it’s first season, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not the show to miss. Since the very entertaining pilot episode debuted, this action-driven drama has developed into a must watch show. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is Marvel’s way of taking their big time superhero movie success, and adapting it to the small screen realm.

The show takes places after New York was attacked by aliens in Marvel’s The Avengers. Everybody on the planet knows of the incidents that occurred, and the human race is aware that there are super-humans living amongst them. It is up to the agents of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division (S.H.I.E.L.D.) to “protect the ordinary from the extraordinary.” It is their job to prevent supernatural and unexplainable things from happening on Earth.

The team consists of six highly trained and highly skilled agents who grow more as a team through each episode. The team is led by Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). This was quite a surprise to all the viewers because in the Avengers movie, Agent Coulson was a casualty in one of the fight scenes. In the show, he has no memory of dying, but he soon finds out the truth behind everything. It is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, questions that the show makes you think about. Another member of the team is Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) who is a martial arts expert and also pilots the Bus, which is the name of their plane that they fly in. She is a very mysterious and quiet character who knows a lot more classified information than one would think. Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) is the tough guy who plays by the rules. He isn’t afraid to run into combat and will never leave a man behind. Two more members of the team are Leo Fitz (Lain De Caestecker) and Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They are both extremely smart and knowledgable and they can solve pretty much anything. They know everything in almost every field. They finished top of their class at the academy. The last member of the team is the newest one, Skye (Chloe Bennett). Originally, she was a hacker who tried to expose the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the world, but eventually comes around to joining the team. She is very knowledgable when it comes to tracking people down and hacking into computers. Although she is the only one on the team who didn’t go through training at the academy, she is still a huge asset to the team.

In each episode of the show, there is a different occurrence of weird events and the team has to investigate it and resolve the conflict. Whether it be an Azgardian artifact being used to take over the world, or an invention that gives people super strength, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are on the case.

The show has a lot of awesome fight scenes, and a lot of mysteries that make you want to just keep watching. It also has a great storyline. With each person in the team having such different qualities about them, it makes a great watch. Coulson’s witty humor, May’s tough attitude, Skye’s sarcasm all go hand in hand, in making this show great to watch.
